In Episode 03 of the Creating Your Unlimited Journey Podcast, I’m joined by Martin Valkysers, Senior Director at Capgemini Invent who speaks with us about what it means to lead with purpose and courage. Leading with purpose is an art and a science that starts with this one premise: that everyone has a unique and valuable perspective to offer. When we lead with purpose, we tap into the group’s collective wisdom and create opportunities for everyone to contribute their best ideas. This approach results in more creative and effective solutions – as well as inspires our team members’ trust and commitment.

Martin discusses how he found success in both his personal and professional life by staying true to his values and following his passions. By doing so, he created a life that’s both meaningful and fulfilling. If you’re looking for guidance on how to find your own path in life, this episode is a must-listen.

Take your career higher by learning the art and science of leadership from this senior exec. - Martin Valkysers

Highlights:

05:10 – For me, the biggest chunk, the biggest thing that I had to chew and finally overcome is to understand that I had to free myself from patterns that I adopted or was exposed to as a child…. but when it comes to finding your own space, your own purpose, you may have to deviate from that… you have to let go.

12:50– I had to overcome a lot of stereotypes and prejudices [when transferring from the military to civilian employment]. You have to educate [HR departments] on what you learned that you could transfer [to civilian jobs].

18:10– [When taking a career risk] I made the jump, and with confidence, I said, I can do it.

21:03 – Leadership as an art to me is really broken down into three big pieces, and that`s A – for Appreciation, R – for Respect, and T – for Trust.

28:00 – It’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see. So really focus on creating your reality and not perceive whatever you think is reality as boundaries to what you can achieve and what you can set your mind to.
